“Some of you may be familiar with the original “Start-up” version of piloroo.com, when we originally launched our site to help promote individual educators and their education classes.,” says Clive.

Like most start-ups we learned to pivot when we soon realised that our target audience required a bigger solution in trying to attract new apprentices and assistants into our industry.
Which is when we diversified our website to enable salons to easily book “Assistants for casual hire” just like the AirTasker website on a part time needed basis. We sourced young individuals looking for part time work on a casual hire basis. We then trained all the assistants through our in depth Piloroo Assistant training program. In the hope of our young assistants then being inspired to join our industry full time. Initially looking for part time work and then hopefully finding their tribe then them wanting to take up hairdressing on a more permanent role. By finding a salon for them to do their apprenticeship with, similar to a recruitment business.
Unfortunately, or in our case fortunately, as a result of the Covid-19 forced lockdowns, we took a deep assessment of our business. These results of this analysis made us both aware that our future plans for growth would be nearly impossible to achieve without major investment to continue.
The sad realisation that Piloroo in its current form was not simply scalable was a big blow. Simply due to the increasing amount of training sessions and national recruitment process required to grow our business at the rate required, to keep up with the huge demand our industry requires.
As a result of this evidence, both Kelly and I decided to pivot our business once more. Understanding what hair professionals would require more of, once we were free from lockdowns. The result was a foreseeable increase in future face-to-face education events. The problem we all currently had was “where do we find all these education events?” It was all so fragmented in many different areas from product companies branded events, to individual events via generic booking websites for example: Eventbrite, Humantix, IG link in the Bio. etc. We experienced first-hand when we posted our own Piloroo assistant trainings on generic websites, it was difficult for our assistants to find without us supplying a direct link the training day.
So, Kelly and I both realised it be amazing if we all could find and host all our hair/ beauty related events in one dynamic website. This was the day our business model changed, and over the next few years our industry specific events website was created.
Thankfully, now the demand for top quality education is on the rise once again, during these few past years. Kelly Grant and I have been hard at work creating a dynamic new website designed to host and book all your industry events.
We recently launched Piloroo Events in Perth back in November 2023. We had an amazing night showcasing some of Perth’s and Australia’s most influential educators. We promoted and highlighted some of the education that will be featured on Piloroo in 2024. Alongside the talented Paper Rock Scissors Artistic team, Pauline McCabe, Naser, Nicole Lamers, Nathan Yip, Mikelah Jayde, Julie Mahoney, Neesha McCabe.
It was a fantastic night of great education and thank you to all the artists that supported us and made the night a great a success. As a result, we are now hosting events for numerous educators & international product companies including, Eleven, Kevin Murphy for the WA events in 2024.
