The Rise of Regenerative Injectables
Written by Dr Kate Howsan
Ask anyone who prefers to age naturally why they avoid cosmetic injectables, and you’ll often hear the same answer: “I don’t want to look done.” We all know the look they’re referring to, the strangely similar, almost copy-and-paste version of youthfulness that doesn’t quite match the person beneath it.
For decades, non-surgical aesthetics has been dominated by muscle-relaxing injections and dermal fillers, supported by energy-based devices like laser and radio frequency. These treatments have their place: botulinum toxin softens lines by relaxing facial muscles, while fillers (most commonly hyaluronic acid substances) restore volume, shape and structure.
Some even offer mild bio-stimulation. But the reality is that most traditional injectables still focus on masking the visible signs of ageing rather than addressing its underlying causes and many rely on creating a controlled degree of inflammation to achieve their results.
And here’s the question we must ask: In a world obsessed with reducing inflammation, are we inadvertently “inflam-ageing” ourselves?
It’s no secret that wellness culture has taken a sharp turn toward calming the body, supporting its natural rhythms, and reducing internal stressors.
So it makes sense that aesthetic medicine is beginning to follow.
A New Era: Treating the Face Layer by Layer
Advances in facial ageing science tell us that skin, fat, muscle, and bone all age differently and need to be treated accordingly. This shift in understanding has paved the way for a new category of treatments – welcome: regenerative injectables.
Products like Profhilo Classic, Profhilo Structura, Rejuran, Lenisna and Sunekos are designed not to inflate or immobilise but to stimulate the body’s natural repair pathways. They support healthier skin, healthier fat pads, and healthier cellular function long-term.
Take Sunekos, for example. Using a patented blend of amino acids paired with specific-chain hyaluronic acids, it targets and upregulates collagen types 4 and 7, without triggering “inflammation”. It also inhibits the natural breakdown of hyaluronic acid. Once those cells “switch on,” the body begins repairing itself, leading to smoother, more hydrated, toned and luminous skin.
This is not about covering up. It’s about correcting by addressing the decline in collagen, elastin and cellular activity that drives visible ageing.
More Harmony, Less Homogeny
Regenerative injectables allow clinicians to step away from the “same face” effect often seen with traditional fillers and toxins. Instead, they support each individual’s unique features, enhancing what’s already there rather than replacing it.
This more holistic, biologically aligned approach offers results that evolve over time and integrate naturally into the face. It feels less like intervention and more like restoration.
Where We’re Heading
It’s clear the momentum is shifting. Clients are asking for treatments that feel healthier, more intuitive, and more aligned with their bodies.
Regenerative injectables deliver on that, and this is only the beginning.
Over the next decade, we can expect regenerative agents that target not just skin and fat, but also muscle and bone.
When that happens, many traditional anti-ageing tools may become secondary, or even obsolete.
In other words:
Watch this space. The future of injectables is regenerative and it’s already here.
