How Hair Skills are helping Save Lives
Fashion for a Cure is a charity event raising money for Breast Cancer research.
Loyal to the program, Joico and the team are back again to support this incredible activation.
“Last night saw a sold out audience of 240 guests come along to a warehouse space in Newmarket that was totally transformed and together we raised $159,424. We are absolutely thrilled with this result and we seriously couldn’t do what we do without all of you.
From our gorgeous models who were transformed by the teams from Joico and Basalaj, to the amazing designer garments that were shown on the catwalks, with guests entertained by Pascal Roggen and the boys from Sweet Mix Kids, updated on the latest funded BCC research project by Dr Emma Nolan with Professor Andrew Shelling both from the Auckland University right through to an incredibly well lead auction by our board member Martin Cooper and not to forget our incredible MC’s and Ambassadors for Breast Cancer Cure Petra Bagust and Antonia Prebble and the evening was captured by our photographer by Annupam. The evening was a great success.” Kim Beere, Events Manger for Breast Cancer Cure.
“Being a partner with the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation on their Fashion for a Cure program as JOICO is not only a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause, but also a reminder that when we come together with a shared purpose, we can achieve remarkable things. Our amazing JOICO styling team thoroughly enjoy styling the hair for the runway shows at the events and take great pride in being a part of one super impressive operation by the Rockstars that make the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation live large.” Kylie McLeod-Simcock: Marketing Director at Sabre Haircare
New Zealand has the 7th highest incidence of breast cancer in the world. Mortality from breast cancer is 20% higher in New Zealand than in Australia.
Breast Cancer is taking two of our nation’s women from us every day, whilst one woman is diagnosed with the disease every three hours. Our support has helped to slow the death rate by 1% per year with 89% of women diagnosed with early breast cancer now surviving more than five years. For the remaining 11% there is currently no cure and now more than ever our focus remains on this group and the 20-30% who subsequently go on to develop advanced breast cancer.
We support research into finding a “cure” for breast cancer by making the disease one that women can endure and survive by funding novel research into: prevention, earlier detection, predictive and prognostic diagnosis, appropriate and tailored treatment and broadening the knowledge base around breast cancer and treatment with a focus on the 17% with poorer outcomes and the 30% with recurring or metastatic cancer.
We’re committed to achieving our goal of finding a cure for breast cancer and with your support and involvement, we believe that is a very achievable goal.
