Lash lifting has evolved far beyond the traditional treatment most salons first introduced years ago. Today’s modern lash lift methods focus on precision, lash health, customisation, and even better results. Techniques such as the Korean Lash Lift, Freestyle Lash Lift, and Adhesive-Free Lash Lift are becoming increasingly popular among lash artists looking for cleaner wrapping, improved control, and more tailored outcomes for their clients.
At the centre of this movement is the Korean Lash Lift, an advanced technique developed to manage stubborn, coarse, or downward-growing lashes that can be difficult to lift with traditional methods.
The Korean lash lift starts with the application of a flat silicone shield along the lash line. Step 1 is mixed with a viscosity controller to aid in the stability of the lotion and prevent slip when applying to the lashes. This application technique will hold the lashes in place as they are gently redirected from the base of the lash onto the flat shield in an upward position. The lashes are coated from base to tips as the softening process begins.
It’s important to be consistent with the lotion during application, especially with coarse lashes, which may need extra precision and processing time. Apply cling film to maintain pressure and enhance the softening process. This controlled upward placement and softening approach is ideal for clients with downward-facing lashes, aiding in relaxing and stretching the lash structure.
Midway through processing, gently comb the lashes to stretch, align, and assess softness. For fine or wispy lashes, remove excess solution from the tips of the lashes to avoid overprocessing. Continue flex-checking until the lashes are soft and ready. Then remove Step 1 and the flat shield. Place your curved shield along the lash line to begin wrapping the softened lashes upward, they should now hold shape with ease. Apply Step 2, mixed with a viscosity controller, to set the new desired shape.
This method creates defined, long-lasting results that simplify wrap-resistant lashes but requires precise product control and an understanding of lash texture for the best results.
Alongside the Korean technique, the Freestyle Lash Lift offers a softer, more flexible approach. Instead of securing lashes onto a shield before processing, the lifting lotion is applied directly onto the natural lashes while they rest downward on an under-eye pad or reverse shield. This relaxes the lashes before wrapping, making them easier to manipulate during placement.
Another growing trend is the Adhesive-Free Lash Lift method. While not completely free from adhesive properties, this technique replaces traditional lash glue with viscosity-controlled lotions or balms that create a soft grip on the lashes. This creates a smoother application process while reducing stiffness and improving flexibility during wrapping.
What makes these modern lash methods so exciting is the level of customisation they offer. Rather than forcing every client into the same treatment structure, lash artists can now adapt techniques based on lash direction, texture, density, and overall lash health. This not only improves results but also supports healthier processing and more controlled styling.
For artists wanting to learn these techniques properly, the Elleebana Korean Lash Lift Techniques Online Course explores Korean, Freestyle, and Adhesive-Free methods in depth, combining advanced technique training with formulation science, viscosity control education, and treatment customisation strategies.
