In her own words, Kindale Godbee shares her journey into the world of hairstyling, her passion for textured and curly hair, and the Made for Originals event. From personal experiences to expert tips, here’s a glimpse into her approach and philosophy.
Journey into the Hair Industry:
It all began with me chopping my own hair. I was bullied for being different and during my growth journey I made a vow to make every person I meet feel beautiful in their own hair journey.
Specialisation in Textured and Curly Hair:
The decision came naturally as I recognized the lack of proper care and attention that textured and curly hair receives. I wanted to champion these hair types, educating both clients and other professionals on the importance of specialised care.
Evolution in Approach to Textured Hair Care:
Initially, it was about mastering the fundamentals, but over time, it’s evolved into a more holistic approach—focusing on health, hydration, and embracing the natural texture. Now, my work is a blend of precision styling with a deep understanding of product ingredients and their effects on different hair types.
Changes in Australia’s Approach to Textured Hair:
There’s been a noticeable shift towards inclusivity in salons, education, and product development. More professionals are taking the time to learn how to properly care for textured hair, and brands are beginning to produce products that cater to these needs. However, there’s still progress to be made in terms of broader accessibility.
Top 3 Tips for Caring for Curly Hair:
1. Hydration is key—find products that lock in moisture without weighing down curls.
2. Detangle gently using wide-tooth combs or fingers to prevent breakage.
3. Find a routine that fits best for your hair type.
Choosing O&M:
O&M aligns with my values of sustainability and health-conscious products. Their range, especially the Curl Curl line, supports my work in enhancing natural textures without the use of harsh chemicals, giving me the freedom to create beautiful styles while protecting the integrity of the hair.
Experience Traveling and Educating with O&M:
It’s been incredibly rewarding to share my knowledge on a global scale, empowering other stylists to take textured hair care seriously. O&M has given me the platform to not only teach techniques but to foster a deeper understanding of product ingredients and usage.
