Rose’s concept is based on the set theme of 90’s techno culture. This vibrant and energetic topic proved to be so much more through her research. In the aftermath of the Berlin Wall’s fall, 90’s techno culture was born in the basements of abandoned buildings that once lined the divide. These empty spaces became secret havens for illegal nightclubs, pulsing with the fresh sounds of techno. More than just music, it was an escape, a unifying force, a message of freedom and self-expression. Techno wasn’t just a sound; it was a movement, it bridged divides and ignited liberation.
The haircut draws inspiration from iconic 90’s hair fashion—the short, sharp bob with a twist. Timeless in its fierce simplicity and boldness, it captures an era of attitude The colour had to echo the essence of techno—bold, mysterious, and electric. All to be revealed at the World-Wide Hair Tour. Together, they capture the rebellious, uplifting pulse of the movement, where unity, self-expression, and escapism thrive in harmony and striking a balance of technical mastery and editorial coolness.
A Unique Fusion of Architecture and Hair Artistry
An unexpected source further ignited Rose’s artistic process—the architecture of Melbourne, particularly the NAB building. As she rode the train to the National Gallery of Victoria, the building’s vibrant colours emerging from the shadows sparked an idea that shaped her colour placement. This fusion of architectural and cultural inspiration creates a visually striking masterpiece, a blend of technical precision and artistic expression.
The Talent Greenhouse Experience
Reflecting on her journey with the Davines Talent Greenhouse, Rose notes, “This experience has been nothing short of transformative. Launched in 2022, the Davines Talent Greenhouse has quickly established itself as a trailblazing initiative, providing a unique platform for nurturing up-and-coming talent in hairdressing. Unlike traditional competitions, this program is open to all, regardless of age or previous experience, and does not require professional photos or retouching. The Talent Greenhouse focuses on levelling the playing field, ensuring that creativity and passion are the driving forces behind every participant’s success.
Through comprehensive online mentorship, participants receive guidance in crucial areas such as social media, trend forecasting, conceptualization, and colour design. This holistic approach not only hones individual skills but also fosters a sense of community, as participants collaborate on creative projects that go beyond stage performances. Each participant is part of a collaborative journey, working together to create an emotional video and engage in creative projects beyond just stage performances.
The final phase of the Talent Greenhouse will culminate at the highly anticipated Davines World Wide Hair Tour (WWHT) in Berlin, Germany, from October 3rd to October 8th, 2024. During the WWHT welcome dinner on October 6th, Rose Poli and the other top 10 finalists will present their unique interpretations of the Davines Hair ID, with the winner set to be announced on October 8th!
