The Luxury of Feeling Seen – Why Touch Matters.

By Nicolette Kocsi Goldberg – Owner & Founder of Luminary Melbourne.

The beauty industry has never been more advanced. Every year we welcome new technologies, smarter devices and innovative ingredients that promise faster results and better outcomes. We invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into equipment, attend education after education, and constantly look for the next breakthrough treatment. But in our pursuit of innovation, I believe our industry is at risk of overlooking the one thing that clients remember most… How we make them feel.

I was recently honoured to receive Gold in the Best in Skin Awards for Touch Therapy, and while I was incredibly grateful for the recognition, it also made me reflect on what touch therapy truly means. For me, it has never been about performing the perfect facial massage. It’s about creating an experience where every interaction communicates care, confidence and genuine connection. Touch therapy doesn’t begin when your hands meet the client’s skin. It begins the moment they walk through your front door.

As clinic owners and therapists, we often ask ourselves, “What’s the next treatment we should introduce?” Perhaps the better question is, “How can we create an experience that our clients can’t stop talking about?” Because while technology may attract new clients, exceptional service is what keeps them coming back.

The Consultation Is Your Most Powerful Treatment

If I could give every therapist one piece of advice, it would be this: never underestimate the power of a great consultation. It’s far more than gathering medical history or identifying skin concerns. It’s your first opportunity to build trust.

Clients don’t just want to know you’re knowledgeable, they want to know you’ve truly listened. Ask meaningful questions, understand what brought them in, and explore how their skin has affected their confidence, not just what products they use. Listen before offering solutions. When clients feel heard, they relax. When they relax, they trust you. And trust is the foundation of every successful treatment plan.

The best consultations don’t feel clinical. They feel like conversations.

Luxury Isn’t Expensive. It’s Intentional.

One of the biggest misconceptions in our industry is that luxury comes from expensive fit- outs or designer furniture. It doesn’t. Luxury is found in the details. It’s a heated treatment bed on a cold Melbourne morning. It’s warm towels placed gently across tired hands. It’s offering a blanket before your client realises they’re cold. It’s dimming the lights before LED light

therapy and transforming twenty minutes of waiting into twenty minutes of relaxation with a soothing hand and arm massage. It’s a calming scalp massage while a treatment mask processes. It’s smooth, uninterrupted transitions where your client never feels like you’re rushing from one step to the next. None of these moments are particularly expensive. Yet together they create something incredibly valuable.

They create an emotional experience.

When clients describe an unforgettable treatment, they rarely talk about every product that was applied. They talk about how relaxed they felt. They remember finally switching off after a stressful week. They remember feeling cared for.

That’s luxury.

The Experience Is Your Brand

In today’s industry, many clinics have access to similar technology, skincare brands and education. What clients can’t compare online is how your clinic makes them feel.

That becomes your brand.

I’ve often seen businesses invest heavily in the latest device while overlooking the fundamentals of customer experience. A rushed consultation, poor communication or a distracted therapist can undo even the most impressive clinical result. On the other hand, I’ve seen simple treatments delivered with genuine warmth and attention to detail create lifelong clients. People don’t become loyal because of one facial. They become loyal because they consistently feel valued.

Never Forget the Human Behind the Skin

Our industry will continue to evolve, and that’s something we should celebrate. But I hope we never lose sight of the reason most people walk through our doors. Yes, they want clearer skin or a more youthful complexion. But they also want to feel confident. They want to feel understood. They want to feel cared for. Let me remind you that our greatest strength as professionals isn’t found in the equipment we own or the products, we stock. It’s found in our ability to combine clinical expertise with genuine human connection. The clinics that will thrive over the next decade won’t simply be the ones with the newest technology. They’ll be the ones that never forget the person lying on the treatment bed. Because trends will come and go. Devices will be upgraded. Products will be reformulated. But making another person feel genuinely seen, heard and cared for will never go out of style.

Clinic Closures Bring Prepaid Treatment Models Into Focus.

aglow has highlighted the importance of how aesthetic clinics and salons manage prepaid client funds, following a few recent clinic closures, with a focus on the arrangements in place for vouchers, packages and credit balances if a business closes. The company said the closures have highlighted a structural risk in parts of the beauty sector, where client money can be used to fund day-to-day operations. In those cases, clients may be left as unsecured creditors if a business closes, while operators can carry growing liabilities on their balance sheets. Two Adelaide clinics on the aglow platform, Jennifer Carly Aesthetic Medicine and Adelphè Wellness, have stepped in to support customers affected by these recent local closures, by honouring vouchers. Karl Margrain, CEO and founder of aglow, said the issue reaches beyond a single business failure. “When client money is used to fund operating cash flow, the risk can fall back on

Glovora’s New App Turns One-Time Clients Into Repeat Business.

Glovora announced the launch of its white-label patient app built for salons, aesthetic, cosmetic, spa and wellness clinics, giving clinic owners a single platform to grow loyalty, retention and predictable revenue. Most salons and clinics still grow the hard way — buying leads, sending emails that go unopened, and hoping clients rebook. Glovora replaces that with an always-on retention engine that lives on the patient’s phone. The only app brings six tools into one: memberships, rewards, automated offers, financing, push-notification deals, in-app retail and treatment sales 24/7, a simple to use client experience, all under the salon or clinic’s own name and branding. The result is fewer one-time visits and more recurring, predictable revenue, without rising ad spend. ‘Salons and Clinics are brilliant at delivering services and treatments, but growth shouldn’t depend on constantly chasing new leads. Glovora turns every visit into the start of a lasting relationship.” said Fabio

Sound Medicine.

The Ancient Wisdom Modern Wellness Is Finally Hearing. By Sam Oraya, Founder of The Day Spa. Long before sound was studied in laboratories, it was understood by the body. Across cultures and centuries, people have gathered in sacred spaces to chant, sing, pray, drum and ring bells. Sound has always been woven into ritual and healing. Our ancestors understood something essential: sound can change the way we feel. I have worked with sound, singing bowls, chimes, voice and other instruments for as long as I can remember. I have also immersed myself in spiritual sound experiences throughout the world, from sacred community and Amerta sound medicine in Bali, to Thai temples, chanting the Reiki precepts in Japan and, more recently, Mexico. Each experience has been different, yet I have repeatedly noticed the same thing: sound can reach places that words and conscious thought sometimes cannot. You do not simply hear
