AHC + Mitch Wallis Leadership Program launched.

The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) has partnered with leading psychology thought leader and Real Conversations author Mitch Wallis to deliver an exclusive six-week online leadership program for Australian salon and barber business owners.

Following Mitch’s keynote at the AHC Leadership Summit in Sydney earlier this year, the Real Conversations Online Leadership Series 2026 will give business owners practical tools to manage people, improve communication, navigate difficult conversations and build stronger workplace cultures.

The live online program begins Monday 12 October and runs across six sessions through October and November – 12, 19, 26 October and 9, 16, 23 November – with sessions delivered via Zoom and replays available the following morning.

The program has been developed specifically around the realities of leading people in today’s workplace, including team retention, performance, culture, communication, psychosocial risk and the increasingly complex role of the business owner as a leader.

“With staffing, retention and people management continuing to be some of the biggest challenges facing salon and barber businesses, leadership is a skill that business owners can’t afford to overlook,” said AHC CEO Fiona Beamish.

“We wanted to give our members access to something practical and genuinely valuable – not another webinar where you listen and take a few notes, but a program designed to help them become more confident and capable leaders.”

The program is valued at $1,500, but AHC members can access the full six-week program for $497 + GST during the Early Bird period, which ends 30 September 2026.

The program includes six live sessions with Mitch, optional live Q&A, session replays, a workbook, diagnostic tools, a copy of Real Conversations, a pocket guide and 12 months’ access to the Real Conversations Academy.

Mitch Wallis holds a Masters in Psychology from Columbia University and has trained more than 10,000 people across more than 200 organisations. His work focuses on helping people and organisations build stronger relationships, communication and leadership capability.

The AHC says the program is one of several new initiatives aimed at providing practical support to members beyond traditional industry advocacy.

“We’re continually looking at ways we can help our members build more sustainable businesses and stronger teams,” said Beamish. “Leadership, wellbeing, people management and communication are all part of that.”

The Real Conversations Online Leadership Series is exclusive to AHC members.

Clinic Closures Bring Prepaid Treatment Models Into Focus.

aglow has highlighted the importance of how aesthetic clinics and salons manage prepaid client funds, following a few recent clinic closures, with a focus on the arrangements in place for vouchers, packages and credit balances if a business closes. The company said the closures have highlighted a structural risk in parts of the beauty sector, where client money can be used to fund day-to-day operations. In those cases, clients may be left as unsecured creditors if a business closes, while operators can carry growing liabilities on their balance sheets. Two Adelaide clinics on the aglow platform, Jennifer Carly Aesthetic Medicine and Adelphè Wellness, have stepped in to support customers affected by these recent local closures, by honouring vouchers. Karl Margrain, CEO and founder of aglow, said the issue reaches beyond a single business failure. “When client money is used to fund operating cash flow, the risk can fall back on

Glovora’s New App Turns One-Time Clients Into Repeat Business.

Glovora announced the launch of its white-label patient app built for salons, aesthetic, cosmetic, spa and wellness clinics, giving clinic owners a single platform to grow loyalty, retention and predictable revenue. Most salons and clinics still grow the hard way — buying leads, sending emails that go unopened, and hoping clients rebook. Glovora replaces that with an always-on retention engine that lives on the patient’s phone. The only app brings six tools into one: memberships, rewards, automated offers, financing, push-notification deals, in-app retail and treatment sales 24/7, a simple to use client experience, all under the salon or clinic’s own name and branding. The result is fewer one-time visits and more recurring, predictable revenue, without rising ad spend. ‘Salons and Clinics are brilliant at delivering services and treatments, but growth shouldn’t depend on constantly chasing new leads. Glovora turns every visit into the start of a lasting relationship.” said Fabio

Sound Medicine.

The Ancient Wisdom Modern Wellness Is Finally Hearing. By Sam Oraya, Founder of The Day Spa. Long before sound was studied in laboratories, it was understood by the body. Across cultures and centuries, people have gathered in sacred spaces to chant, sing, pray, drum and ring bells. Sound has always been woven into ritual and healing. Our ancestors understood something essential: sound can change the way we feel. I have worked with sound, singing bowls, chimes, voice and other instruments for as long as I can remember. I have also immersed myself in spiritual sound experiences throughout the world, from sacred community and Amerta sound medicine in Bali, to Thai temples, chanting the Reiki precepts in Japan and, more recently, Mexico. Each experience has been different, yet I have repeatedly noticed the same thing: sound can reach places that words and conscious thought sometimes cannot. You do not simply hear
